Spinal Manipulation

Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT) or Spinal Manipulation is a unique manual therapy technique where a therapist using their hands applies a rapid controlled thrust to a single or several joints, often accompanied by a characteristic “popping” or “cracking” sound. Spinal manipulation may be performed on an isolated area of the spine or the whole segment of the spine in order to mobilize joint(s) that have become “stuck.”

Joint manipulation is a well-researched technique that has stood the test of time and appears to be most effective when combined with other manual therapy approaches and physical therapy techniques, such as stretching, functional strengthening and modalities such as shock wave, cold laser, heat, electrical stimulation etc. When performed by a skilled and experienced practitioner, joint manipulations are not only safe but also highly effective. By addressing various pathways, including biomechanical, neurological and vascular systems, this method offers significant relief for a range of conditions, such as low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches, migraines, stiff joints with restricted movement. Although best known to treat the spinal joins, the benefits of the manipulative therapy extend to a variety of other joints in the body, such as the hip, knee, wrist, ankle, shoulder and more.

Benefits of Spinal Manipulation

alleviate neck/back pain

Relieve pressure on the joint

Improve nerve function

Reduced muscle tension

Improves posture

reduced headaches

Increased space within the joints, allowing for greater movement and range of motion.

Increased patient confidence in movement
